Works of art live longer than our life. The desire of making and keeping may show our longing for eternity. Egypt has the ingredients of such human world. My visiting was from the close of 2004 to the beginning of 2005.
Sphinx
"What animal is that which in the morning goes on four feet, at noon on two, and in the evening upon three?" Sphinx is guardian diety who proposes to people such a riddle in Greek fable, has lion's body & Pharaoh's face (but there isn't the nose unfortunately. It was shot off by Napoleon's troops.), oriented (due east!), and 20 meters tall. On Vernal Equinox Day and Autumnal Equinox Day, the sun lights up his face, and at the moment, OrIon culminates and the vent of the Pyramid of Pharaoh Khufu shows its altitude. This is also elaborate unbelievably.
